It was a cold day as little Timmy sat in front of his window watching it snow, when he noticed Children playing in the snow cover road. Timmy only wished he could go out and play with those children and toss snow balls endlessly at each other.
Timmy noticed one thing about the children, that they had tattered clothes and loaf bread sacks over their well worn shoes and not a one of them had a decent coat draped around their small frames.
Timmy turned to his Father who was laying on the couch watching his favorite Basketball team take a beating and said “Dad can we do anything to help those Kids playing in front of the house?”
Timmy’s dad got up off his perch and came to Timmy and looked out the window at the children Timmy was referring to and looked at his son and said “Timmy we have enough to worry with, You know with you being in a wheel chair and all, without having to worry about someone Else’s kids.”
You see Timmy’s Dad use to have the heart such as resided in his son’s chest, but after the accident that put his young son in a wheel chair, his heart slowly turned into a heart of stone caring for know one but his self.
That Christmas eve night as Timmy lay in his bed, he uttered this Christmas prayer,” Dear God I was going to only ask you for one thing this year and that was to let me walk and run like all the other boys and girls, but you know God that can wait until next year. This year my Christmas prayer is to ask you to make sure those children that I watched out my window today, to awake on Christmas Morn with warmth and plenty of good food to eat and lots of warm clothes to wear and also some new shoes for each one of them and if you Don’t care please throw in a toy for each one for good measure and please let my Dad understand the true meaning of Christmas, Amen.”
Unbeknown to Timmy as he said his Christmas prayer someone was standing out side his bedroom listing to every word his son was speaking, this would be his dad. Timmy’s Dad stood there for a long time even after Timmy had ended his prayer, even till he could hear nothing but silence coming from his son’s Room.
He stood there with tears flowing from his face, unable to move for the shame that came over him was unbearable, He dropped to his knees and this is the prayer that he utter on that Christmas eve night. ” God I have not talked to you in such a long time, Please let me have just a tenth of the compassion that my son has for this world and then maybe I too will know the true meaning of Christmas.”
Hours later on up into the wee hours of the morning in Timmy’s room and angel came to visit the young lad. The room glowed with rays of light as bright as the morning star.
The angel stood at the foot of the sleeping child’s bed and made this Christmas proclamation, ” I have journeyed a long way passed stars and moons to come to this house, for last night a prayer came on that same journey pass moon and stars and found its way to heaven and the cry went out from the far reaches of heaven to answer this special Christmas prayer. I Gabriel have come to answer this prayer. When this young lad awakes he will walk to the house of the children he so thoughtfully cared about and see his Christmas prayer answered.”
That cold Christmas morning Timmy awoke to a tingling in his touched by an angel legs and with out batting an eye leaped from the bed and ran to his Dad’s room, but his Dad was not there, so he ran through the house looking for his Dad but he was no where to be found. Timmy dressed himself and ran out the front door as if he was being led to the place that his Christmas prayer had manifested itself.
Timmy arrived at the house a few blocks away and though he had never been there he knew it was the home of the children he had watched playing the day before, and what did he see none other than his Dad standing outside a window peering in at the awesome Christmas monring site of children awaking to that greatest holiday of all Christmas. Timmy’s dad watched as one by one the children opened up presents of new coats and new clothes and yes bright shiny toys. The table was spread with fruits of all kind and a grand Turkey dinner.
Timmy Dad turned from this site to see a site he never thought he would ever see and that was his young Son Standing behind him on two perfectly working legs.
That Christmas morning Timmy and his Dad had Prayers answered, Timmy’s soon to be playmates got to have the best Christmas ever, and Timmy’s Dad gott that heart he asked for.
For you see, it was Timmy’s Dad who brought all the Christmas Joy to the Children down the road on that cold Christmas morning by delivering them all the clothes and Food to make it a very special day for them.
And well Timmy Was to be seen many a day on that street in front of his house, Yes walking and running with all the kids of the neighborhood, for you see, he really knew the true meaning of Christmas.
May each one of you have a very Merry Christmas this Year.
